Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has launched the Enniskillen Place Shaping Plan 2035, described as a transformative vision for Enniskillen's future.

This comprehensive plan maps out an ambitious yet feasible roadmap that will steer the town's strategies, activities, and investments over the next decade and beyond.

The Enniskillen Place Shaping Plan is dedicated to crafting a better, more sustainable, and attractive town. Its focus is to bolster the local community's resilience and the economy by fostering an inclusive, accessible, regenerative and health-conscious urban environment.

Embracing the notion that towns are ever-evolving entities, the plan envisions a vibrant Enniskillen that honours its history, its location, and its people. The aim is to cultivate a healthy, sustainable and prosperous space while preserving its remarkable natural, architectural, and cultural heritage.

Based on intensive research and collaborative engagement, the plan envisions a revitalized island town, described as a "restorative reset." This transformative ambition seeks to revive Enniskillen's island charm, seamlessly linked with the waterscape. Collaborative investments with key partners will propel Enniskillen as a vibrant, healthy, and interconnected hub, serving as a nucleus for community, enterprise, and regenerative tourism in Fermanagh.

Councillor Thomas O'Reilly, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, expressed enthusiasm,

"I am delighted to launch the Enniskillen Place Shaping Plan which will inform decision making to position Enniskillen as a vibrant and naturally welcoming town for current and future generations. This plan has been developed in partnership with the business and community sector which is important as, working together, we can ensure that Enniskillen is a great place to live, work, visit and invest in.

Enniskillen has a strong retail, hospitality and tourism offering and it is important that we build on this to secure more sustainable social, economic and physical regeneration.  This will help to ensure our communities are stronger and more resilient in the future.

It is hoped that that achievement of this will also benefit the other outlying towns and villages in the county."

A spokesperson from the Department for Communities said: "We are pleased to see the completion of this new Places Shaping Plan for Enniskillen following our support to Fermanagh & Omagh District Council (FODC) in its development. Place Shaping is a collaborative approach to planning and designing public spaces, in order to create places where people want to live, work, play and invest.

Following a thorough engagement process, this Plan now provides a vision for Enniskillen's future, capitalising on the town's unique location as an island, whilst also celebrating its history and heritage. The six key themes identified in the Plan and associated actions are a clear roadmap to realise the ambition for Enniskillen, and DfC looks forward to working collaboratively with FODC and partners towards the Plan's realisation."

The Enniskillen Place Shaping Plan 2035 heralds a landmark step towards a vibrant, interconnected, and sustainable future, underlining the commitment to enriching the lives of local residents while forging a path toward enduring success.
