Construction News Image
NI Water has announce a major Water Improvement Project has gotten underway in the North West.

Phase 1 of the Carmoney to Strabane Strategic Trunk Main has commenced and the overall project will be completed by the end of 2024.

This project is an essential new water supply system that will increase the resilience and robustness of the network, improving the security of the water supply system for customers in the wider L'Derry and Strabane areas.

Gary McFadden, NI Water Senior Capital Project Manager said: "We are pleased to announce this major Water Improvement Project, which will greatly improve the robustness and resilience of the water supply infrastructure in the wider Derry/Londonderry and Strabane areas.

"The project will help safeguard the provision of high-quality drinking water throughout the wider Northwest region. It will be particularly important during the winter months and other unplanned events, such as a water supply interruption, to ensure maximum security of supply for our customers in the local area.

"The NI Water project team would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation as this essential scheme progresses."

The contract for the civil construction work has been awarded to Murphy / Dawson Wam JV and McAdam Design will assist with Project Management and technical support.

Preparation work for construction is now well underway, and the project team will re-engage with landowners to discuss further details and commence ground investigations. The team has also conducted up-to-date environmental and ecological surveys.

Construction activity will get underway this month at the Edenreagh Rd, moving down towards the crossings at the Gorticross Road, Tibracken Road, Killennan Road, Lismacarrol Road, A6, Ardmore Road, Tullyvalley Road, Church Road and finally Corrody Service Reservoir in the coming months.

Further updates and signage will be in place as the work progresses and NI Water and our contractor Murphy / Dawson Wam JV would like to thank the public and local landowners for their patience and cooperation, as we work to complete this major water improvement scheme. We assure the public that we will do everything possible to keep all disruption to a minimum.

We would like to take this opportunity to highlight that construction sites are dangerous areas and our sites have warning signs in place to protect the public from any hazards. The public are advised to stay away from these working areas for their own safety.

Over the past fifteen years, NI Water has steadily improved the efficiency with which we operate while at the same time improving the quality of drinking water, levels of environmental compliance and the services we provide to our customers.
