Work Continues On New Ballymena Carriageway

Construction News Image
Construction on a new single carriageway in Ballymena is making significant progress ahead of its scheduled opening this summer.

St Patrick's Link Road will be a 2.4 km route with a 30mph speed limit, linking the Larne Road Link and the Broughshane Road in Ballymena.

Work has now commenced at the Larne Link tie-in where the new right turn lane and signalised junction is being formed, along with alterations to the roadway adjacent to the cinema, where the new St Patricks Link Road ties in.

Works are progressing well with the carriageway construction complete to base layer. Final surface layer works have commenced for the new pavements and the new shared footpath/cycle way.

The trees have all been planted with some even flowering, with the landscaping now substantially complete.

The majority of the fencing has been installed, with the vehicle restraint installation also nearing completion. The new LED lighting columns have now had the heads attached and testing is ongoing.

The remaining works will include a pelican crossing, new traffic lights, road markings and restoration of the remaining with the works due to finish next month.
