Uisce Éireann has appointed GMC Utilities to secure the water supply in Trim, Co Meath.
Working in partnership with Meath County Council, Uisce Éireann is upgrading the watermain along the Mill Lane, Watergate Street, Loman Street, Sarsfield Avenue and Church Lane in Trim.
Approximately 430 metres of old and problematic pipes will be replaced, representing a significant step and investment in reducing disruption from bursts and outages which have been affecting homes and businesses in Trim.
The works involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers' property boundaries and connecting it to the customers’ water supply. Where the existing service connections on the public side are lead these will be replaced as part of this improvement work.
The works are being delivered as part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme which will deliver significant benefits to the local community including a more secure water supply and considerable water savings. The programme adopts a strategic and targeted approach to improving the water network across Ireland, through the delivery of a number of leakage reduction work streams, prioritising investment where it is needed most, and providing proactive solutions to local water supply issues.
Highlighting the importance of this upgrade and others in the area, Matt Thomson, Leakage Reduction Programme Regional Lead at Uisce Éireann, said: "We are delighted to be making significant progress with essential upgrades for Trim. We have recently completed works on Bridge Street and Market Street. The complexity of these works in urban areas and the nature of the underground network while posing challenges at times, has been overcome and we are looking forward to completing another essential project for the people of Trim.
"On behalf of Uisce Éireann, I would like to thank the local community in Trim for their on-going patience and cooperation. Based on previous experiences, we know that the short-term inconvenience will be overshadowed by the long-term benefits."
Temporary traffic management, operated by personnel, will be in place along Mill Lane, Watergate Street, Sarsfield Avenue and Church Lane for the duration of the works. Local and emergency traffic will always be maintained.
The work is expected to be completed by April 2023.
