Work To Address Old Water Mains In Letterkenny

Construction News Image
A programme of water mains replacement works are to begin in the County Donegal town of Letterkenny.

With works almost complete on High Road, crews will now begin removing 300 metres of old water mains on Port Road and lay new pipes which will eliminate leakage and reduce sporadic outages.

The Port Road works, along the R229, will take place at nighttime from 7pm to 7am daily.

Farrans Construction is carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann, and is expected to have the project completed by the end of next month.

Uisce Éireann's Networks Regional Lead Declan Cawley said: "All of these works are part of a significant investment by Uisce Éireann to upgrade the water network in County Donegal.

"Fewer bursts and less leakage mean a stronger supply for homes and businesses. Completing these mains replacement projects is good news for everyone."

For the safe delivery of these essential works, temporary traffic lights will be in place along Port Road. However, they will be removed by 7am daily and traffic will revert to normal during the daytime. At nighttime, areas of work will be limited to short sections to minimise the impact on the community and local and emergency traffic will be accommodated at all times.

The works may involve some short-term water interruptions and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours' notice prior to any planned water interruptions.
