The pedestrian and cyclist safety improvement scheme will commence on the A55 Upper Knockbreda Road on Monday 09 January, with completion expected by the end of April 2023.
The scheme, at the A55 junction with Cregagh Road, includes the realignment, widening and resurfacing of the carriageway with improved provision for cyclists and pedestrians to include the upgrade of the existing traffic signals and the addition of toucan crossings on the main legs of the junction. Once completed it will also provide a direct connection between the Connswater Greenway and the Cregagh Glen.

Associated drainage, utility and street lighting alterations will also be required to facilitate the scheme.
To carry out the work safely it will be necessary to operate daily weekday lane closures for the duration of the work between the hours of 9.30am and 4.30pm. Access to the cycle lane along this stretch of road will also be limited at certain times.
Some delays are to be expected and road users are advised to allow extra time for their journey or if possible seek an alternative route. Local access for residents, businesses, school users and emergency services will be maintained.
