RICS President Clement Lau FRICS has visited Northern Ireland to tour the award-winning Erne Campus at South West College.
Lau came to the Enniskillen campus, where he congratulated the college for winning overall UK project of the year at the 2022 RICS UK Awards.
The £34m campus is the world's first educational building to achieve the highest international standard in environmental construction. It secured both PassivHaus Premium and BREEAM Outstanding accreditations. It was commended by judges for its pioneering sustainability efforts, which will also see it yielding an anticipated 90% reduction in energy costs for the college.
Commenting on the success of the campus at the awards, RICS President Clement Lau FRICS said: "I had the pleasure of touring Erne Campus following their success at this year’s awards. I saw first hand many of the impressive initiatives that have been put in place to reduce the college's environmental impact.
"The teams behind this pioneering project should be incredibly proud of their achievements, it is a true testament to the tireless dedication of industry professionals in Northern Ireland."
In a night of significant success for Northern Ireland at the gala London event, the team behind the North West Multi Modal Hub won Infrastructure Team of the Year, and Belfast-based chartered surveyor Diana Fitzsimons FRICS was awarded the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award at the RICS Awards in London, part due to her work in the area of sustainability.
Clement Lau FRICS added: "Northern Ireland is clearly pioneering and doing really positive things in helping address climate change, and these awards represent so.
"The talent and collaborative approaches from the teams behind these projects have resulted in exemplary and innovative schemes that really do represent the very best built projects across the UK."
