Water Upgrades To Begin In Meath Village

Construction News Image
A programme of water main works is expected to begin in Batterstown, Co Meath, in the coming days.

Irish Water and Meath County Council will work to construct over 1.6km of new water mains and ancillary works linking Batterstown to Dunshaughlin Water Treatment Plant, replacing the local water supply and providing customers with a safer and more secure water supply.

Following a commissioning phase to ensure optimal standards have been achieved as a result of the works, Irish Water and Meath County Council will then consult with the HSE with a view to lifting the Boil Water Notice that is currently in place for customers.

To facilitate the safe delivery of these works, a road closure will be in place along the L22091 with traffic management also in place along the R154 and L2209. Local and emergency access will be maintained at all times. To minimise the impact on customers, areas of work will be limited to short sections.

Commenting on the project, Matt Thomson, Irish Water said: "These works are part of a significant investment by Irish Water to safeguard the water supply across Meath. The works will help to provide a safer and more secure water supply for the community of Batterstown while also supporting future residential and commercial development. We will continue to engage with local stakeholders as we deliver this vital project.

"Following the successful completion of this project, Irish Water and Meath County Council will then consult with the HSE with a view to lifting the Boil Water notice that is currently in place for customers. We acknowledge the inconvenience that customers on this supply are experiencing and would like to reassure them that we will work as quickly and as efficiently as possible to complete the works and provide them with a safe and secure water supply for generations to come."

The works will be carried out on behalf of Irish Water by GMC Utilities Ltd and are expected to be completed at the end of February 2023.
