Construction News Image
Students studying STEM subjects from counties Tyrone, L'Derry, Fermanagh and Donegal have been invited to apply for financial support.

Now open for applications, the SSE Renewables 2022 Scholarship Fund is open to students who are starting courses in Ulster University, South West College and North West Regional College, and are from the areas above where SSE Renewables wind farms.

Successful applicants will receive funding support for 50% of their third level education fees.

The wind-powered Scholarship is backed by the SSE Renewables Regional Fund for Slieve Kirk Wind Park and Tievenameenta Wind Farm, owned and operated by SSE Renewables, as well as the Greencoat Renewables owned Slieve Divena II Wind Farm.

More than 300 students have benefited from the SSE Renewables Scholarship Fund since it was launched in 2014, with more than £950,000 in financial support being provided as they embark on their third level studies.

Michelle Donnelly, SSE Renewables Community Investment Manager, commented: "At SSE Renewables we put great value in delivering positive and impactful work in the local communities where our wind farms are located. That is why the SSE Renewables Scholarship Fund has been such a popular programme over the last nine years. Supporting new students as they begin their journey into third level education is a really important way to ease some of the pressure, and let them concentrate on their studies."

Speaking at the launch of the 2022 SSE Renewables Scholarship Fund, Michelle Donnelly, SSE Renewables Community Investment Manager, said: "With more than 300 students already having benefitted from the Scholarship Fund, working with Ulster University, South West College and North West Regional College, we are ensuring that the next generation is equipped for the workplace and to play their part in tackling the climate crisis.

"The 2022 SSE Renewables Scholarship Fund is now open for applications, and we hope that many new students will apply."

Applications to the SSE Renewables Scholarship Fund are now being accepted with completed applications to be submitted by candidate students to their chosen institution no later than 23 November.
