The Kingscourt Town Centre Regeneration Scheme in County Cavan has reached a major milestone with a key appointment.
An Integrated Design Team headed by Tobin Consulting Engineers has been appointed by Cavan County Council to deliver the scheme.
The consultancy services have been procured to develop the project from the initial concept stage through its current project inception and feasibility stages, toward public consultation, planning and detailed design to a contract ready capital project.
Subject to funding approval, this project can then progress through construction to final certification and handover of the completed works.
Work is currently taking place on Stage 1 of the Scheme: Project Inception and Preliminary Investigations.
The anticipated total cost of this project development work is €1,050,000. Cavan County Council has been granted €787,500 to develop this stage of the project by the Department of Rural and Community Development under the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund.
The Rural Regeneration and Development Fund (RRDF) is a commitment of €1 billion by government to be invested in rural Ireland over the period 2019 to 2027.
The purpose of the fund is to support job creation in rural areas, address de-population of rural communities and support improvements in our towns, villages and outlying areas with populations of less than 10,000.
The objectives of the scheme include delivering an increase to the civic space within the town core, provision of off street town centre carparking, the undergrounding of all overhead utilities through the town centre, a façade painting scheme for town centre buildings and to provide new public buildings for use as a Remote Working Hub and Community Library.
The Kingscourt Town Centre Regeneration Scheme is aiming to improve both the economic and physical landscape of the town. It will create a focal point for increased activity and footfall, provide valuable space for new business in the town core & potentially open up back lands for development.
In addition, the scheme will make best use of civic space available and will improve the quality of life of residents and visitors to the town.
Members of the public are invited to attend the first public consultation event to view the proposals developed to deliver the scheme objectives and to comment on the initial findings of the project inception and feasibility stages.
The event launch will take place on Monday, 13 June 2022 on Market Square, Kingscourt at 10am.
This project is being funded in partnership with the Department of Rural and Community Development through the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund.
