Drumaroad Water Treatment Works (WTW) has been upgraded with new LED lighting.
This is part of work from NI Water colleagues within the Energy Reduce Use Programme, which saw Water Production Line and specialist contractors identify prospective sites that would deliver energy benefits.
Chris Tumelty, Plant Manager, Drumaroad WTW, NI Water said: "NI Water has an ambitious target to reduce its energy use by £1.5m during the current price control period 2021 – 2027. Drumaroad WTW was selected as part of a wider initiative to review sites in terms of energy usage and performance."
This LED Lighting installation on site will assist in realising energy efficiency of circa 107,000kWh/annum (c£21.5k) as well as improving the lighting inside and outside the WTW building which will result in a safer working environment.
Eamon Tennyson, Energy Project Manager, NI Water added: "With energy prices soaring globally and the drive towards net zero staying firmly in the spotlight, we are delighted to work with colleagues in the Water Production Line, & specialist contractors to deliver sustainable energy efficient solutions to improve our energy performance and usage.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in the project and we look forward to rolling out further energy efficiency projects with our Water Production Line colleagues during 2022/23 FY at Westland WPS, River Bann RWPS, Moyola Water Treatment Works (WTW) and Castor Bay WTW – Magheraliskmisk Pump to name but a few in order to meet our challenging energy reduce use target."
