Welcoming the establishment of the Shannon Estuary Economic Taskforce, Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Daniel Butler said: "Establishing the Taskforce was a commitment under the Programme for Government and recognises the enormous opportunity and potential that exists for the Shannon Estuary region to become the leading region in Ireland for investment in Green Hi-Tec Technology and power generation. There are opportunities now emerging around floating off shore wind generation, Hydrogen Technology, transport logistics, manufacturing and tourism along the Shannon Estuary.

"I look forward to working with the members of Limerick City and County Council, our neighbouring authorities and the new Taskforce to ensure that the mid-west achieves its full potential in job creation and attracting new investments in this exciting new area."
The Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Leo Varadkar published the terms of reference for the Shannon Estuary Economic Taskforce, following Government approval for its establishment.
The taskforce will assess the strategic strengths of the Shannon Estuary and examine potential economic opportunities for the area, and is expected to provide a final report by October.
