Galway Water Works To Deliver Great Benefits

Construction News Image
Water mains works are set to take place in Galway in the coming days to bring an improved supply to the city.

Taking place across phases, Irish Water will work alongside Galway City Council to install approximately 770m of new iron mains.

The new water main will increase security of supply and reliability from Terryland Water Treatment Plant to Clifton Hill Reservoir. The works will also reduce the high level of leakage in the area.

Outlining the benefits of the works Gerry O'Donnell, Irish Water, explained: "This initial phase of works will involve the construction of approximately 400m of new water mains in Moyola Park, facilitating a new trunk water main from Terryland Water Treatment Plant to Clifton Hill Reservoir, to supplement the existing network. To minimise disruption the works will be completed in a phased approach between January and May 2022. There will be some traffic management in place however local and emergency access will be maintained at all times.

"The works may involve some short-term water interruptions and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours' notice prior to any planned water interruptions. We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and works crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause.

"This mains work is part of a significant investment by Irish Water to upgrade the water network in Galway City and we would like to thank customers in advance for their cooperation and patience while we complete this essential job."

Ward & Burke Construction will deliver the works on behalf of Irish Water.
