Economy Minister Urged To Clarify Areas Eligible For Ultra Fast Broadband

Economy Minister Gordon Lyons has come under pressure to update the public on the areas covered by the £165 million broadband scheme Project Stratnum.

This multi-million pound project aims to offer access to Ultra Fast Broadband across rural parts of Northern Ireland.

Reports circulated this week that some rural people with poor internet were informed they do not qualify for the scheme.


Sinn Féin MLA Caoimhe Archibald raised this issue with Minister Lyons and urged his Department and Fibrus to roll out the scheme to as many people as possible.

"An additional £25 million of funding was announced for Project Stratum at the end of August so that more homes that are still not able to access decent broadband will be included," said MLA Caoimhe Archibald.

"I have asked for an update from the Economy Minister on the areas that will be covered by this additional funding.

"I would also urge anyone who has checked and found their property isn't included currently, to get in touch with the department for economy and with Fibrus to make them aware.

"Sinn Féin will continue working to ensure people and businesses in rural communities get access to decent broadband."
