Water Main Improvement Works Continue In Clontarf

Construction News Image
A programme of water main improvements is continuing to progress across Dublin city, with work to get underway in Clontarf.

Irish Water is working alongside Dublin City Council to deliver water main replacements on the approach road to the Wooden Bridge, replacing old cast iron mains with new heavy duty plastic pipes.

Earlier this year, on Sybill Hill in Clontarf Irish Water replaced 1.3km of old cast iron watermains that were prone to bursting. As a result of these essential works 25,000 litres of water are saved every week with homes and businesses in the area benefitting from a safer, more secure supply.

Work on the approach road to the Wooden Bridge is starting on Monday 15 November and are expected to be completed within two weeks. To facilitate the safe delivery of these essential works, the Wooden Bridge will be closed to vehicles from Monday 15 November to Saturday 20 November 2021. Local and emergency access will be maintained at all times. Whilst every effort has been made to minimise the impact of the works a small number of properties may experience water outages for short periods during the course of the works. Those who are expected to be impacted are being notified directly.

Speaking about the works, Matthew Thomson, Irish Water said: "We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and working in partnership with Dublin City Council we will make every effort to minimise any disruption that these necessary works may cause. The delivery of these essential works will help to safeguard the water supply to homes and businesses in the area ensuring a safer mores sustainable water supply."
