The transformational €5.3 million Virginia Civic Centre project is making great strides and remains on track for completion next summer.
A guided tour was hosted on the site by John Wilson, Senior Engineer with Cavan County Council's Housing Construction Section, giving the Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Councillor Clifford Kelly, the chair of Ballyjamesduff Municipal District, Cllr Trevor Smith, local councillors, and management and staff of Cavan County Council the chance to see the progress first-hand.
Main contractor Demac Construction is working to deliver the project, which will comprise a new library, additional theatre space at the Ramor Theatre, and a shared multipurpose civic events space - both indoor and outdoor - to cater to the needs of all services located therein and the broader community.
The project is being funded through the €3,963,525 in funding under the Rural Regeneration Development Fund, through the Department of Rural and Community Development, with a further €1.3 million in funding to be provided from Cavan County Council's own resources.
Commenting following the visit, Cathaoirleach Cllr Kelly commented: "I am pleased to see that significant progress has been made on this fantastic facility for the people of Virginia and its hinterland. I look forward to returning here next year to see the finished product. I have no doubt that it will have an energising effect on this thriving east Cavan town."
Director of Services with Cavan County Council, Mr Eoin Doyle added: "The speed at which progress is being made here in Virginia is testament to the many years of planning that went into developing the plans and funding application for this transformational project from John Wilson and his team in Housing Construction, Padraic McIntyre and his staff in Ramor Theatre, and County Librarian, Emma Clancy and her library team."
