Fermanagh Bridge To Undergo Repairs

Construction News Image
A £325,000 programme of repair works has been announced for the Galloon Bridge in Newtownbutler, Co Fermanagh.

The Department for Infrastructure is set to begin work on the scheme along the U9119 Galloon Road at the start of September, with completion expected in 12 weeks.

The work proposed involves phased concrete repairs to the underside of the bridge.

To help minimise disruption to the residents on Galloon Island access for light traffic will be maintained throughout the works. Diversions are not required, however to ensure the safety of road users and road workers a temporary weight limit restriction will be required for larger vehicles during the various phases of the works.

The works will also impact on the Upper Lough Erne Waterway Navigation System. Therefore the navigation channel under Galloon Bridge will be closed throughout the duration of the works and directional diversion signage will be installed to inform water craft users of the alternative navigation arrangements.

Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon said: "This significant investment to strengthen and upgrade the bridge will benefit everyone who uses the Galloon bridge.

"I would like to thank the public and local residents in advance for their cooperation and ask users of the Upper Lough Erne Waterway Navigation System to be mindful of the diversionary signage in place whilst the works take place."

The repair works are set to be completed by Wednesday 17 November.
