DoI To Invest £66m In 145 Zero And Low Emission Buses

Construction News Image
The Department of Infrastructure (DoI) is investing £66 million in 145 zero and low emission buses from Wrightbus.

The investment is part of the Net Zero Emissions strategy.

SDLP Ballymena Councillor Eugene Reid welcomed the announcement from Minister Nichola Mallon.

Cllr Reid said: "This is an enormous investment of £66m in clean, green sustainable transport technology and it's a huge boost for our local economy. Minister Nichola Mallon is showing exactly how the Executive can use its power to secure jobs, deliver investment and tackle the climate crisis.

"Ballymena has suffered more than most other towns when it comes to the loss of skilled jobs. The SDLP has made a clear commitment to supporting our community by helping us to contribute to the effort to reduce carbon emissions.

"Ballymena is at the cutting edge of sustainable transport technology. The hydrogen power buses that are being produced here create no toxic emissions – only water. We can position ourselves as a global leader in sustainable technology.

"The SDLP will continue to do all we can to support local jobs, the local economy and fight the climate crisis. I am looking forward to working with Minister Mallon as we take on that challenge."
