Construction News Image
A new multi-use pitch and walking trail has officially opened in Armagh.

Local Armagh sporting hub, Middletown GAC, is now the overseer after funding of over £116,000 from SOAR ABC's Rural Basic Services Scheme.

At a total project cost of £154,000, the successful transformation saw the development of a new multi-use games area, including floodlights, ball stops and nets as well as a new 2m-wide walking trail.

The newly enhanced facilities will act as an accessible, safe and secure place for a range of sporting activities, not only helping enrich the physical and mental wellbeing of the whole community but also helping alleviate rural isolation.

Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, Councillor Kevin Savage commented: "As a council we are committed to investing in our rural communities and I delighted to see the end product of this exciting project at Middletown GAC. A place for the community to be proud of, these upgrades offer local residents convenient, modernised and safe recreational facilities, helping enhance their physical and mental wellbeing."

Chair of SOAR ABC, Councillor Kyle savage commented: "This is a great and much needed provision for the Middletown community and surrounding areas. Helping invigorate the community, this project will provide a central hub for all age groups to enjoy and also contribute to the health and wellbeing of local residents, whilst also encouraging the provision of new activities with the extensive space being provided."

Project organisers, Middletown GAC secured three-quarter's of the scheme's overall costs from SOAR ABC’s Rural Basic Services Scheme.
