Construction News Image
Engineers Ireland has called on its 25,000 members to get involved in this year's annual Engineers Week.

Taking place from Saturday 29 February until Friday 06 March, STEPS Engineers Week is a campaign held annually to promote engineering as a career and the importance of the profession to Ireland. The week-long engineering celebration is coordinated by Engineers Ireland's STEPS programme - funded by Science Foundation Ireland, the Department of Education and Skills and industry leaders ARUP, ESB, Intel and Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).

Engineers across the country are being urged to inspire the next generation of engineers by organising an activity in their local community during the week-long celebration.

To assist engineers with their outreach efforts, the Engineers Ireland STEPS programme team have created a number of free resources to assist engineers with their activities including classroom or site visits in their local community.

Caroline Spillane, Director General of Engineers Ireland, said: "Engineers Week will bring the fascinating world of engineering to life in communities throughout Ireland and inspire today's children to engineer the Ireland of tomorrow. There is still time for engineering firms to get involved and our STEPS team has a range of free supports to assist you in bringing your activity or idea to life. Engineers Week is a fantastic week to showcase the profession to primary and secondary students and highlight the ways engineers in Ireland are pushing the limits of ingenuity and innovation."

Engineers are also encouraged to register their activities to be in with a chance of winning one of three fantastic prizes for a school in their community.
