Boil Water Remains In Place In Galway

Construction News Image
Irish Water customers supplied by the Teeranea/Lettermore Public Water Supply in Galway are being reminded that the boil water notice issued on the scheme on 15 January remains in place.

The notice also applies to customers supplied by the Lettercallow Group Water Scheme.

Emergency works at the water treatment plant have now been completed and a period of monitoring and testing has commenced. Once a full suite of compliant test results have been received and the HSE are satisfied that the treated water entering the network is safe for consumption they will instruct Irish Water to lift the notice. This is expected to happen within the next couple of weeks.

The boil water notice is in place due to incidents of elevated turbidity in the treated water due to operational and mechanical issues at the water treatment plant. Irish Water would like to apologise to customers who are affected by this notice and thank them for their patience while works are ongoing.

Commenting, Tim O’Connor, Irish Water's Asset Operations Water Lead said: "We are aware of the impact that this notice is having on the area affected. We advise customers of the Teeranea/Lettermore Public Water Supply and the Lettercallow Group Water Scheme to adhere to the Boil Water Notice until further notice. We will continue to work closely with Galway County Council and the HSE to monitor the plant and lift the notice as quickly as it is safe to do so and safeguard the supply for the future. We will issue a further update as soon as more information is available."
