Water Main Bursts In Athlone

A water main has burst in Athlone, Co Westmeath, affecting the supply for a host of residents in the area.

The incident occurred in Cornamagh on the water main that carries water from Athlone water treatment plant to Annagh Reservoir.

Irish Water and Westmeath County Council have deployed a team to the site to carry out repairs.

Customers in the following areas may experience disruption to their water supply while the repair is underway; Athlone Town, Baylin, Mount Temple, The Ories, Garrycastle, Dublin Road, Ardnaglug, Fardrum, Moydrum, Blyry, Killyon Hill, Bonavalley, Ballymahon road, Ballykeeran, Glasson and surrounding areas.

The repair is expected to be completed later this afternoon, 17 December, however it may take a couple of hours for normal water supply to return to all customers.
