The Department for the Economy and South West College have joined forces to launch a new Assured Skills Academy. This will give 13 people the opportunity to gain the skills needed to start a career in welding.
Successful applicants will receive five weeks of industry-relevant pre-employment training at SWC's Dungannon campus followed by a two-week placement in a welding role in a company in the wider Dungannon area. Those who complete the Academy will gain a Level 2 City and Guilds Award in Welding Skills and secure a guaranteed job interview.

Academy participants will receive a weekly training allowance and travel expenses, and may be eligible for childcare allowance.
Ann Williamson, Head of Employer Skills at the Department for the Economy, said: "This is an excellent opportunity to gain skills that are in high demand in Northern Ireland and particularly in County Tyrone. This collaborative training in a college and workplace setting not only benefits participants, but will help ensure that local companies have access to the skilled workforce they need to continue to grow.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old by Monday 13 January 2020 and be eligible to work in the UK.
