Call For Faster Solution To River Shannon Flooding Risk

Locals living near the River Shannon have expressed concern over potential flooding risks.

Approximately 41% of the rainfall experienced in the year to date has occurred since 01 August.

This has prompted Minister of State for the Office of Public Works and Flood Relief, Kevin Moran to visit Tarmonbarry on the Roscommon-Longford border. Red tape has now been put up along the river before work will be carried out.


Fianna Fáil representative Eugene Murphy has called for a faster solution to the flooding risk at Tarmonbarry and Jamestown.

Deputy Murphy said: "I would urge the Minister to investigate these projects and give priority to the work required. The government has made many announcements and longer term plans but the reality is communities are at risk, land is becoming unusable and the government should step in now."
