As an official sponsor of the Engineers Ireland Excellence Awards, the Irish Water Sustainability Award will be announced as part of the 2019 awards.
Making the announcement, Claire Lyons, Capital Programme Manager, said: "Through this award we want to highlight and promote the integration of the core pillars of sustainability into projects being delivered across the engineering and environmental industries in Ireland. We are looking for projects that demonstrate not only long-term benefits in terms of sustainability, but ones which have embraced sustainability throughout their planning and delivery phases."
This is the first year of this category and the partnership with the Engineers Ireland Excellence Awards, held in association with ESB.

The Sustainability award is open to all projects within the disciplines of engineering and environmental industries. The projects will be judged on the environmental improvements achieved; the positive impact to the local community and/or society in general; efficiencies in cost, energy, waste reduction and maintenance achieved throughout the lifecycle of the project; innovation and creativity; adaptability of the solution for future applications; best practice in project management; sustainable planning and effective environmental leadership.
Encouraging entries by the 18 September deadline, Caroline Spillane, Engineers Ireland Director General, said: "Engineers Ireland has long been committed to the principles and practices of sustainable development as stated in our Code of Ethics for our members. We are delighted in this, the tenth year of our Excellence Awards, to include this new category which reflects these principles. The Sustainability Award, with support from Irish Water, aims to put companies in the spotlight for their commitment to environmental sustainability. Engineers have a key role to play in our transition to a sustainable, carbon-free society and are to the forefront of developing renewable energy and other technologies."
The deadline for submissions is 18 September and the awards ceremony will be held on the 15 November.
