Plans to upgrade the streetscape in Dromore town centre have taken a major step forward with £1.4 million investment.
Funding was confirmed for the scheme, which will see the outer Market Square and Bridge Street areas improved.
The public realm will be enhanced with new pavement treatments, lighting, the creation of shared space, street furniture, signage and decorative features. These works will use natural materials including bespoke details which will reflect the town's history and conservation status.
The Department of Communities is supporting the scheme with £500,000 funding, along with a £50,000 investment from the Department for Infrastructure.
Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council will manage the scheme, in addition to a £480,000 funding allocation.
Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon Borough, Councillor Mealla Campbell commented: "This is a fantastic opportunity for Dromore. As a vibrant, historic market town, with a unique location on the River Lagan and A1 economic corridor, it has so much potential to become a destination of choice. We look forward to realising these ambitious plans, which will further enhance the town's offering and build upon Council's previous regeneration initiatives. We would like to extend our gratitude to the Department for Communities and the Department for Infrastructure for making this project possible, and look forward to working with these important stakeholders, for the future benefit of our citizens, visitors and investors."
When complete, the scheme is expected to help local retailers, businesses, residents and visitors by making the town more appealing and sustaining the local economy.
Work is scheduled to get underway in early 2020.
