Work began on the £1.4 million project in May with the construction of a new Wastewater Pumping Station (WwPS) at Killylea Road. Further works will be carried out over the next few months ahead of completion in early 2020.
As well as the replacement of an existing WwPS, the scheme will also see sewers upgraded in the area.
Sewer upgrades are due to commence in the Irish Street area on 22 July 2019 and following discussions with the Department for Infrastructure, traffic management arrangements will be put in place. In order to carry out construction works safely it will be necessary to complete sewer laying in three phases.

The first phase will require a temporary lane closure on the Irish Street slip road (city bound) from 8am on Thursday 01 August 2019 for four days, until late on Sunday 04 August 2019.
The second phase includes a road closure from the Irish Street slip road opposite St Malachy's Church to the Navan St / Ogle St junction. Work will commence from 8am on Monday 05 August 2019 for five days, until late on Friday 09 August 2019. During this time, access to local businesses and residences will be via the Navan St / Ogle St junction.
The third phase includes the reconstruction of a 5m deep Manhole in Irish Street at the entrance to St Malachy's Church and requires a road closure from Friday 16 August 2019 for two weeks until the Friday 30 August 2019. During this work access will be maintained to local businesses and residents.
Working hours will generally be 8am and 7pm however to complete all three phases of work by Friday 30 August, it may be necessary at times for work to be undertaken outside of these hours.
Vehicular access for local residents and businesses will be maintained as far as possible but will be subject to delays and diversions particularly during the Irish St road closure, pedestrian access will be available at all times. Parking restrictions will be in place around the working area.
