The Blue Flag is an international award for beach excellence and is operating in Ireland by An Taisce. The award is presented to beaches and marinas with excellent water quality and that achieve high standards across a wide range of other criteria including environmental education, management of the environment, safety and other services.

The marina on Lough Neagh was one of 88 sites across Ireland to be recognised with the accolade this year.
Receiving the award on behalf of Mid Ulster District Council, Chair Councillor Martin Kearney said: "To receive this award not just once but an uninterrupted ten times in a row is a wonderful achievement not only for the marina itself and the staff who work there, but for the community on the lough shore, and in fact the district as a whole.
"As a Council at the heart of our community, we work together with individuals, community groups, schools and the voluntary sector across the year to achieve and maintain those standards. Mid Ulster has an environment which deserves to be protected, preserved and enhanced for the enjoyment of everyone and awards like the Blue Flag indicate we continue to do our jobs as custodians of the Marina and its environs for our future generations."
