Capital Funding Bid To Be Launched For Glens Of Antrim Greenway

A bid for capital funding is to be launched for the Glens of Antrim Greenway project, following successful consultation evenings.

If available, the funds would help develop the Ballymena to Cushendall route.

Mid & East Antrim Council hosted a series of consultation evenings on the proposal, discussing plans with key landowners and giving local people the opportunity to express their views via an online questionnaire.


The traffic-free route along the old railway lines would be designed to connect people and communities, and is expected to boost tourism in the region.

Vice Chair of the Operational Committee, Councillor Mark McKinty, said: "There are numerous health and economic benefits to greenways.

"Hopefully this project will come to fruition and attract many more visitors to Mid and East Antrim."

The Department for Infrastructure (Dfl) has indicated that capital funding (50% of capital costs) will be available in the coming months to fund greenway projects that are 'spade ready'.
