Work Continues On £5m Belfast Sewer Infrastructure Upgrade

Construction News Image
Work is continuing on a £5 million sewer infrastructure upgrade project in the Ormeau area of Belfast.

The scheme is being carried out around Ormeau Avenue, Dublin Road, Bruce Street, Sandy Row and sections of the lower Ormeau Road. Once finished, the investment will significantly reduce the risk of out of sewer flooding in this area of Belfast during periods of heavy rainfall. Environmental pollution will also be reduced, and the water quality in the Blackstaff Culvert and River Lagan will be enhanced.

Currently, pipeline installation work is continuing on Hardcastle Street, as well as at Alfred Street. Pipeline installation will begin on Ormeau Avenue on Monday, 10 September, around the junction of Alfred Street and progress towards Bedford Street. Further works will commence at Charlotte Street Car Park on the same date and take three to four weeks to complete.

Further pipeline installation works will commence on Dublin Road on Monday, 24 September between Marcus Ward Street and Pakenham Street.

NI Water said: "We will continue to endeavour to keep the public updated with timescale for completion of each section of the project. However, as with any large and complex capital project, adjustments to timeframes are to be expected."
