Nearly 300 New Homes To Be Built Near Lisburn

Construction News Image
Nearly 300 new homes are to be built near Lisburn.

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council's Planning Committee have unanimously backed plans for 297 dwellings, comprising  of mixed house types, landscaping, parking and associated site and access works at Brokerstown Village, as part of phase 2 of LD1: lands to the North of Woodbrook Glen and Alder Way, Lisburn.

In addition, the council has pledged to carry out road improvements along the Ballinderry, Knockmore and Prince William junctions which must be made before any new homes are occupied. The homes are being delivered by developer, Lagan Homes.

Speaking after the decision, Chairman of the LD1 Brokerstown Lands Cross Party Steering Group, Alderman William Leathem, said: "This new housing development will not only provide much needed new quality and sustainable homes for Lisburn, including a play area and designed green open spaces, but also will ensure the completion of outstanding works at Woodbrook along the Brokerstown Road, as well as ensuring  that road junction improvements will now be undertaken as soon as possible, with priority being given to the Ballinderry Road and Knockmore Road junction.

"The Council through its Steering Group has been working hard with all relevant developers, the community and the Department For Infrastructure to resolve the road issues in this part of North Lisburn. A number of conditions on the major planning approval will ensure that key road improvements are delivered before any further occupancy of new homes.

"These improvements are expected to be completed within the next 12 months and I am very pleased that progress is finally being made on this very important issue."

Cllr Amanda Grehan added: "I am confident having heard the developer's submission that, at last, we will get the much anticipated and long-campaigned for progress in and around the Brokerstown developments."
