The fourth Sustainable Ecological Engineering Design for Society (SEEDS) conference is now underway in Dublin.

Over 80 international academics and researchers will attend the event on sustainable design, which is being hosted by Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) in the city's newest urban quarter at Grangegorman.

Attendees will present and discuss ideas on how to reduce the negative impacts of construction on the environment while providing for the health and wellbeing of society.

Overall, the conference will hear from a line-up of expert speakers about pioneering research which is shaping the future of sustainable design and engineering. The event will also address the interdependence of people, the built and natural environments, and recognise the interdisciplinary and international themes required to assemble the knowledge necessary for positive change.

In addition, DIT and the Leeds Sustainability Institute will host the Research, Innovation, Sustainability and Enterprise (RISE) Awards – a unique celebration of all those in the construction industry who are helping to change the way we build for the future.

Conference Chair Professor Lloyd Scott, DIT, said: "Climate change, resource efficiency, greater demands on social care, urbanisation and immigration, an ageing infrastructure, the need to stimulate economic growth, as well as constrained budgets: these are challenges faced by society as a whole.

"85 experts from 20 countries are meeting at SEEDS 2018 to present a range of ideas and projects aimed at tackling these societal challenges. All of these papers present useful insights into current research which is seeking to deliver sustainable, ecological, engineering design for the society in which we live."
