NI-based contractor GRAHAM has completed work to build the new Kenilworth railway station in Warwickshire.
The multi-million pound transformation project featured construction of new platforms, a new station building, cycle sheds, two lifts and a footbridge. In addition, a new car park and bus stop/turning facility were built.
Overall, the new facility has been opened to the public for the first time in over 50 years and provides a new hourly train service, enabling connections at Coventry to and from the north of the County, Birmingham and London and also connections from Leamington Spa to London and the Thames Valley.
The station was officially reopened by Transport Secretary Chris Grayling on 20 July.
GRAHAM's Rail Director, Jonny Kerr, said: "It was a privilege to be here today, on behalf of GRAHAM, at the official opening of Kenilworth Railway Station. As the principal contractor, this is a project that we are immensely proud of and we recognise its strategic importance for the people of Kenilworth and the wider benefits that it will deliver.
"The team has produced a high-quality design in keeping with the historical approach for the new station. We have worked collaboratively with all local stakeholders, Network Rail and their contractors, and Warwickshire Council during the delivery of each phase of the works.
"Wherever possible, we minimised disruption and we carried out possessions during Rules of the Route (ROTR) overnight, with the team adopting an efficient approach working in consultation with key stakeholders to ensure that we delivered all of the works in a safe and timely manner while mitigating the impact on the local residents."
