Murphy Process Engineering Begins Work On Staleen Pipeline

Construction News Image
Murphy Process Engineering has commenced work to replace the Staleen pipeline across Drogheda, south Louth and east Meath.

The 2.3km pipeline brings water from the River Boyne to the Staleen Water Treatment Plant (WTP) where it is treated and pumped to the Donore Reservoir.

The pipeline is over 50 years old and has burst twice in the past year. The replacement piping will ensure a secure and reliable water supply for people in the area.

The towns of Ashbourne, Laytown, Bettystown, Mornington, Donacarney, Ratoath, Duleek, Stamullen, Clogherhead and Termonfeckin will all be affected.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Work is also progressing on a €14 million upgrade of the Staleen Water Treatment Plant (WTP).

Commenting on the project William McKnight, Infrastructure Regional Lead, said: "Once the pipeline has been replaced the water supply for approximately 90,000 people will be secured. We will continue to engage with the community as we progress this project and the upgrade to the Staleen Water Treatment Plant. Once complete both projects will ensure the communities have a drinking water supply that is secure and protects public health by meeting all drinking water regulations."

Other works are being carried out to upgrade the water network in the Ratoath area and to replace an existing water main in Duleek.
