The junior spokesperson on Public Expenditure and Reform also criticised the government for "a decade of under-investment in public and capital stock".
Teachta O'Brien added: "Infrastructural deficits and an insufficient housing supply pose significant threats to our economy. Years of neglect have seen investment fall, harming our economic base and resulting in regional imbalances across the State.

"Sustained neglect of the housing supply and refusal to invest in social housing poses serious threats to both the standard of living of our society and the competitiveness of our economy.
"What is required to respond to uncertainty in the times ahead is investment in our infrastructure, in the skills and education of our people, in housing, and by developing a secure and stable economic base upon which our country can rely in the future."
