BAM has completed redevelopment work on a former Model School site in Anglesea Street, Cork.
The €35 million project redeveloped the site into a six-storey courthouse with six new courtrooms. Improved custody and legal practitioner facilities were also constructed.
The site was expanded to 10,100 square metres, also incorporating Court Services offices, training rooms, and Garda and DPP facilities.
The Minister for Justice and Equality, Mr Charlie Flanagan TD, officially opened the Courthouse yesterday, 28 May.
Speaking at the opening he said: "The extension of this Courthouse is going to make a huge difference to those who use it. Whether a person comes here to work, to seek vindication, to face justice, or as a jury member to pass judgement… everyone will now enter a courthouse which integrates the old and the new, respecting our built heritage exemplified in the Model School and contrasting this with a modern building sculpted from Irish limestone to provide a modern courthouse for Cork City."
CEO of BAM Ireland Theo Cullinane added: "The new Cork Courthouse is a first-class facility and one that the people of Cork can be proud of. Many of our parents attended the school and it is a fine example of utilising an existing site and turning it into a contemporary building that is befitting of this great city."
The project follows the opening of new and refurbished courthouses in Drogheda, Letterkenny, Wexford, Limerick and Waterford over recent months.
