Coffey Northumbrian To Commence Work On Mains Upgrades In Carlow

Construction News Image
Coffey Northumbrian is to begin work to replace ageing water mains in Carlow town next month.

The work is part of a €500 million Leakage Reduction Programme.

Approximately 600 metres of old water mains along Tullow Street will be replaced with new water mains.

It will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers' property boundaries and connecting it to the customers' water supply. Lead service connections will also be replaced as part of the improvement work.

The project is expected to be finished by late August.

Mark O'Duffy, Leakage Reduction Programme regional lead, commented: "Replacing these old water mains in Carlow will reduce leakage and result in a major improvement in water quality and security of supply for our customers in the area.

"This is part of Irish Water's national Leakage Reduction Programme which over the next four years will see €500 million invested to reduce the high level of leakage across the country by fixing or replacing aging water mains. This will ensure a safe, reliable water supply which is vital for our health, our environment and our growing population and economy."

A drop-in information event regarding the project will take place on 21 May from 5pm-7pm in The Seven Oaks Hotel, Athy Road.
