Work is continuing on a water main rehabilitation scheme in Sligo.
Irish Water has teamed up with Sligo County Council on the Sligo City Water Main Rehabilitation and Pearse Road Sewer Network Project.
The firm has advised the public that Union street is now closed until 13 November to facilitate the works.
Traffic diversions have been put in place.
Works are also due to commence on Connolly Street on Monday, 06 November until Friday, 01 December. As part of the section of works Connolly Street will be closed to traffic between these dates with pedestrian access maintained at all times.
The project is being progressed by Ward & Burke Construction Limited on behalf of Irish Water with the road closure licence having being granted by Sligo County Council.
Works on both streets will be carried out from 7am to 7pm daily and will be completed in time for the Christmas period.
The Sligo City Water Main Rehabilitation and Pearse Road Sewer network Project involves the rehabilitation of approximately 8.7km of new water mains, the installation of 1.5km of foul and storm sewers in the Pearse Road area of Sligo City together with the installation of a petrol interceptor on John F Kennedy Parade. The project also includes the replacement of all service connections including any lead services encountered along the way.
The project will reduce leakage and improve the water supply service to householders and businesses in Sligo City.
