Call For People In Drogheda To Have Their Say On National Planning Framework

Construction News Image
People in Drogheda are being encouraged to have their say about the National Planning Framework.

Sinn Féin TD Imelda Munster said it is vitally important that as many individuals and groups as possible who haven't already made submissions to do so before 03 November.

She said: "Drogheda is ideally positioned and has the potential and attributes that no other regional town in Ireland can match. It is perfectly situated on the North/South corridor that is served by motorway and rail, and only 20 minutes from the state’s main airport. As Ireland's 6th largest urban centre, it has a young and educated population. The availability of high speed broadband throughout the town would be very attractive for FDI which in turn would create indigenous jobs.

"However, to realise the full potential of Drogheda, and develop it as a properly functional regional centre, Drogheda must be identified and included in the National Planning Framework. As a regional centre, Drogheda needs firstly to have its Drogheda Borough Council reinstated to manage this large urban area, with a view to Drogheda gaining city status and having a city council.

"It needs an IDA business park on the Northside of town that could avail of Border Midland and Western Regional funding (BMW), our current almost vacant IDA business park is missing out on this funding because it is in the wrong county. The Port Access Northern Cross Route as a crucial infrastructure project needs to progressed and completed. The slip roads tolls which are having an adverse effect of the economic growth of our town need to be removed. Drogheda is the only town in Ireland to be tolled, with no other town in the state split in half by a toll like Drogheda is."
