FF Slammed For Opposing Metro North To Balbriggan Extension

Sinn Féin has hit out at Fianna Fail for opposing its amendment to extend Metro North to Balbriggan.

TD for Dublin Fingal Louise O'Reilly expressed disappointment and said the extension would decrease traffic congestion and reduce pollution.

Deputy O'Reilly said: "During the debates on the Bill, I spoke in favour of the improved amendment and the extension of Metro North to Balbriggan. The main crux of my argument was that Metro North would not only hugely benefit commuters from north Dublin who struggle on packed trains every day to get to and from the city, but it would also decrease traffic congestion and reduce pollution.


"The reason we included a section calling for the extension of Metro North to Balbriggan in our amendment and why I spoke so passionately about why this needs to be done is because, in addition to benefiting commuters it would also open up Balbriggan and north county Dublin and help it realise its huge potential through economic growth and tourism.

"Therefore, I was extremely disappointed to see Fianna Fail, as well as Fine Gael, fail to support this progressive and sensible suggestion."
