The work includes the development of an allotment facility in the Knockenagh Avenue area.
The facility will include 28 allotments, car parking, path works, landscaping, community garden, events space and a junior trim trail.
The project was awarded funding of £290,000 by Antrim & Newtownabbey County Council in February 2017.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor John Scott, said: "I am delighted to see this exciting new development underway. The Council has various health and wellbeing initiatives and facilities like these are the perfect way to encourage the Rathfern community to get involved.
"Going forward I know that this facility will be well used by residents and I am delighted that Council has been able to fund such a worthwhile project. I would like to take this opportunity to give a special thank you to Rathfern Social Activity Centre who have been involved in the project and whose assistance has been instrumental in making this project happen."
