At a recent public meeting community groups in Cavan, Meath and Monaghan called for the undergrounding of the project as evidence revealed it strengthens the grid and improves reliability.
Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Communications, Energy and Climate Action, Timmy Dooley, said: "The discussions were very productive for all concerned. In organising this meeting, we were extremely conscious of the need to listen to the communities, hear their concerns, and understand their anxieties about the proposed over-grounding of the North-South Interconnector.

"The clear sentiment from the community groups is that they have been ignored on this issue. Submission after submission was made by groups, and individuals, opposing the over grounding, yet it seems to have had no effect.
"The Government needs to understand the deep concern, and anxiety, being experienced by communities across Cavan, Meath and Monaghan. Fianna Fáil will continue to work in the Oireachtas to ensure this project is placed underground."
