Concerns Raised Over Plans To Charge Apartment Owners Up To €30m

Fine Gael has raised serious concerns over plans to charge apartment owners in Sandyford, Dublin, up to €30 million to carry out repairs on their properties.

The apartments, in Beacon South Quarter, have a number of structural issues and fire safety defects.

TD for Dublin Rathdown, Josepha Madigan, said the issues have risen due to poor planning at the time of construction.

She said: "I have learned that apartment owners in Beacon South Quarter are to be presented with a bill of €20-30 million at an AGM on Monday, 6th of February 2017. The costs arise from a failure to provide to sufficient water ingress and fire safety structures in the original construction of the residential development in Sandyford, south Dublin.


"These homes were purchased in good faith by many people at inflated Celtic Tiger prices. They are now being asked to pick up the tab for poor planning that failed to adequately provide for water ingress or fire safety.

"I have contacted Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and the Minister for Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government, Simon Coveney, in relation to this.

"We must arrive at a solution that does not unfairly penalise residents for the poor planning of others."
