Receivers Appointed To McCormack Garages

Construction News Image
Over 200 jobs have been lost in Ireland after receivers were appointed to McCormack's garages.

The forecourts, oil distribution facilities and garages all shut down on Monday, 13 June, and Grant Thornton has been appointed as receivers.

Outlets in outlets in Sligo, Castlebaldwin, Drumshanbo, Manorhamilton, Leitrim, Cavan and Meath have now closed.

Fianna Fáil Spokesperson for Employment & Small Business Eamon Scanlon is calling on the Grant Thornton to ensure the businesses are sold.

He said: "This has come as a major shock to workers, who now face an uncertain future.

"This is an extremely anxious time for these workers and their families and I would urge the receiver to ensure that the businesses are sold on as going concerns so that the maximum number of jobs can be protected. The move also has a knock on effect for suppliers, who may not get payment.

"The manner in which the businesses were closed raises concern. The speed at which the receivers were able to move in and shut the outlets down is not only shocking, it is worrying. I would like to see more transparency in this area, because it is not only the company owners that are impacted, it is employees, customers and suppliers."
