British Govt Blamed For Putting Pressure On NI's Renewable Sector

Sinn Féin has blamed the British Government for putting pressure on NI's renewable sector.

Mr Conor Murphy, MLA, said the threat of penalties from the Department of Energy and Climate Change in London is inhibiting the Executive's determination to provide 40 per cent of NI's energy needs from renewables by 2020.


He said: "The Minister's decision to close the Renewable Obligation for large-scale providers and to open further consultation for small-scale providers is the best option available in these circumstances.

"However, the real challenge is to plan for the development of the renewable energy sector into the future in a way which maximises our ability to take full control of a new subsidy system which recognises the all-island nature of the energy market."
