Heavy Winds Cause Significant Damage To Electricity Infrastructure

Crews at Irish energy firm ESB are continuing to restore power to 30,000 customers after the recent heavy rain and gale force winds caused damaged to the electricity infrastructure.

Around 15,000 customers remained without power on Wednesday morning however the firm said it is deploying all available resources and crews from less affected areas to help technicians in the West, South, South East, where the majority of outages remain.


The areas most affected by power outages are Thurles, Ennistymon, Ennis, Scarriff, Newcastlewest, Gorey, Enniscorthy, Baltinglass, Kilcullen, Mountrath, Kilmartin, Delvin.

In a statement ESB said: "ESB Networks expects to have power restored the majority of customers by tea-time this evening. However, there are high winds forecast for today also, and this could hamper the restoration process and cause additional faults.

"ESB Networks crews continue to work in all affected areas, making the electricity network safe and restoring power."
