€12.5 WWTP To Be Developed In Cork

Irish Water has announced a deal with EPS and Sorensen Civil Engineering Joint Venture for the construction of a new €12.5 million wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in Youghal, County Cork.

Irish Water is investing a total of €22.9 million in the Youghal Main Drainage Scheme, which is made up of two components, a new wastewater treatment plant and upgrade works on the sewer network. As soon as the works are complete, sewage in the town will be collected and directed to the new wastewater treatment plant. Treated effluent will then be safely discharged to the Blackwater Estuary off Ferry Point.

The works being carried out by Irish Water will provide the flexibility to deal with population growth in the Youghal area, allow for increasing tourist numbers and provide capacity for industrial and commercial development.
