Firm Fined For Pollution Offences

Biffa Waste Services Limited has been fined £500 for a breach of pollution, prevention and control legislation at Belfast Magistrates' Court.

The firm, with a registered office at Coronation Road, Cressex, High Wycombe, pleaded guilty to a breach of a permit condition relating to exceedances of limits set within their pollution prevention and control permit and was also ordered to pay £303.07 costs.

On 2 January 2015, officers of the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) investigated breaches of permit conditions relating to surface water emissions at the Cottonmount Landfill Site, a non-hazardous landfill site at 140 Mallusk Road, Mallusk Newtownabbey, owned and operated by Biffa Waste Services Limited.
