SF Slams Rebranding Of Bord Gáis Networks

Bord Gáis Networks is to be rebranded as Gas Networks Ireland at a cost of €2.9m, according to Sinn Féin.

The rebranding is due to the privatisation of the energy section of Bord Gáis Éireann.

Spokesperson on Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Deputy Michael Colreavy, said: "The brand of Bord Gáis had been trusted in Irish households for many years.


"Therefore, the loss of the name Bord Gáis from the networks company is certainly regrettable.

"As Bord Gáis Energy was sold for reasons of austerity, it is ironic that it now will cost a significant sum of money to institute a new brand name.

"Confidence from the public is essential, especially in relation to important infrastructure such as the gas network.

"When Bord Gáis Energy was privatised, we may not only have sold a valuable state asset, but also sold off consumer confidence.

"Privatisation is a mistake that the government have still not learned a lesson from."
