Sinn Féin Finance Spokesperson Pearse Doherty TD said the introduction of the new rules is already three weeks late, which is causing people to worry.
Deputy Doherty said: "The Central Bank should as soon as possible release its plan in full and set a date of later this year when it will come into force. The ball would then be in the government's court to implement whatever measures are necessary to protect young families in particular by acting on social housing, rent controls and tenants' rights.

"The rules should not come into effect until there has been a social and economic impact assessment of the regulations looking at the impact of the rules given the ongoing issues in the rental market and the lack of social housing. The government has a role to play in creating a sustainable housing market. The Central Bank move should force it to, finally, act."
